EMERSON - Some New Jersey homeowners are assessing damage today following an intense storm that swept through the area Monday afternoon.

Utility poles were snapped and trees crashed down onto homes as the storm pushed through at around 3:30 p.m.

On Colonial Road in Emerson a tree snapped and fell onto a home, narrowly missing a 2-year-old boy who was napping in a bedroom.

In Morris County, the wind snapped utility poles and power lines fell onto parked cars along Route 46 near Beverwyck Road.  The highway was closed for hours while crews repaired the damage.

A woman and her daughter were injured by a falling tree limb in Bergenfield.  They were both taken to a hospital for treatment.

A tree also fell onto a home in Cresskill where a woman was sleeping.  Officials say the woman was not injured, but the house is uninhabitable.
