PEQUANNOCK - The Morris County towns of Pequannock and Riverdale are looking to combine their police departments to save money.
The idea is already drawing criticism from residents that are concerned about increased response times.
Pequannock's township manager says the move could save each town about $500,000 a year by reducing skyrocketing payroll costs.
The idea of the merger is still in its early stages. The final decision rests in the hands of each of the town's councils. In addition to shared police services, the two towns are also considering consolidating their municipal courts to reduce expenses.
