WANAQUE - The North Jersey District Water Supply Commission has drawn criticism for a new plan to tap a local river for drinking water.
The commission has reportedly been approved to pump water from the Passaic River. The goal is to keep the Wanaque Reservoir full during the summer, when water levels often go down.
But the Pequannock River Coalition says the move will reduce the quality of area drinking water because the Passaic River contains treated sewage.

The DEP has reportedly studied the issue, and says water quality will not be affected.
