North Bergen school budget has some residents crying foul

NORTH BERGEN - After North Bergen voters turned down the school budget last week, the mayor and town commissioners took over.

Three of the five commissioners work for the Board of Education, leading some to question whether or not they can make an impartial decision.

Mayor Nicholas Sacco and commissioners Allen Pascual and Hugo Cabrera all have close ties to the school district, and some are saying its an obvious conflict of interest.

A group called North Bergen Citizens for Change is calling on the state Department of Education to take over the budget process, although officials say it is unlikely they will get the oversight they are requesting.
