Norcross, Fulop take jabs at each other during DNC breakfast

ESSINGTON, Pa. - A top New Jersey political powerbroker and a prospective candidate for governor in 2017 got into an indirect sparring match with each other in speaking to reporters at a Democratic National Convention event.

George Norcross, who heads an influential political organization in southern New Jersey, said he believes Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop is a "politically correct" politician who tells people only what they want to hear.

Norcross sat at a front table during a breakfast Tuesday sponsored by Fulop, who is considering the Democratic primary race for governor. Norcross is an ally of Senate President Steve Sweeney, another possible 2017 candidate.

Meanwhile, Fulop told reporters that Norcross benefited financially from the public sector, but he didn't elaborate.

The contest to succeed Gov. Chris Christie has begun to take shape.
