JERSEY CITY - A nonprofit organization is teaming up with Hudson County to help make it easier for people with criminal records to find employment.
Northeast New Jersey Legal Services held an expungement clinic at the Hudson County Ombudsman office Tuesday as part of their Employment Opportunity Project. Expungement allows a judge to hide a person's criminal record if they've committed very few of a certain type of offense.
The Employment Opportunity Project is designed to assist individuals overcome barriers to employment.
“When you're applying for a job, then you don't have to say you were arrested if you do have a criminal record,” says Anne Kassalow with the organization. “If you get an expungement, it’s like it didn't happen."
Northeast New Jersey Legal Services provides free legal help to the public, including research material and bilingual support.
