NJ will seek federal aid for snow cleanup

FREEHOLD - (AP) - New Jersey will seek federal aid to helpcover cleanup costs related to the monster winter storm thatdropped up to 30 inches of snow on the state.

Gov. Chris Christie was traveling to Freehold on Friday morningto formally sign a letter seeking money from the Federal EmergencyManagement Agency.

The event will be Christie's first public appearance since theblizzard hit last weekend. The governor had traveled to Floridalast Sunday for a family vacation at Disney World and remainedthere until returning home early Friday.

Some Democrats have criticized Christie for not cutting shorthis trip.

But his spokesman, Michael Drewniak, says the governor wasconstantly briefed while in Florida, and that emergency servicesfunctioned well across the state.
