SEASIDE HEIGHTS - Volunteers in New Jersey took part in National Day of Service today as part of the kick-off to President Barack Obama's inauguration.

Volunteers working to restore the beaches at the Jersey Shore used dozens of Christmas trees to build back dunes lost at Midway Beach during Sandy. Organizers say some of the trees came from as far away as Secaucus and Princeton.

Officials hope that the trees will catch sand as winter storms blow and recreate the 50 to 80 feet of dunes lost during Sandy.

Officials hope all of the trees and fencing are covered in sand by Memorial Day.
