NJ Transit holds emergency disaster drill

DUCK ISLAND - First responders took part in a very realistic emergency drill Sunday morning in Hamilton Township.

The first responders were given the task of rescuing dozens of mock victims from a New Jersey Transit rail line. Those who participated in the drill said the simulation was a tornado, causing a tree to come down, derailing a train on the light rail.

The drill was held on Duck Island. Officials say they choose the location because it is hard to reach and close to water, making it the perfect place to test out equipment.

NJ Transit officials say they hold similar drills once a year to prepare for different kinds of emergencies.
