EDISON - A woman trying to get help from NJ Transit wound up with a hotline that was just too hot.

A passenger using a self-serve kiosk at the Park and Ride lot at the Vince Lombardi Rest Area was frustrated when the machine ate her credit card Wednesday morning.

She called a number for a NJ Transit hotline listed on a passenger information poster and was shocked to hear, "Welcome to America's hottest talk line. Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press one now. Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you, press two to connect free now."

The woman has asked to remain anonymous, but she tells News 12 New Jersey she was astounded. She was shocked that a number listed for a government agency turned out to be X-rated.

NJ Transit reacted quickly when News 12 alerted them to the "too hot" hotline. Spokesman Nancy Snyder says the poster is outdated and should have come down in June 2008 when NJ Transit stopped using the number.

Snyder says the agency is checking their properties to see that any remaining old posters are removed.

But the number also turns up on websites like the South Jersey Transportation Authority and one for Camden courts.

Customers say NJ Transit dropped the ball. "They should make it somebody's job to constantly update their information because we need to talk to real people and know what's going on," says Acqueelah Casey, of Edison.

The agency will also have to update the websites and provide them with the correct customer service number, which is (973) 275-5555.
