HACKENSACK - NJ Transit riders in Hackensack will have a change of scenery over the next few months.
Transit buses and trucks are being rerouted away from the Anderson Street bridge because of structural issues.
A recent rating from the state Department of Transportation rated the bridge's condition a 54 out of a possible 100 points. That prompted Bergen County officials to reduce the weight limit from 30 tons to 15.
Over the next several months, structural repairs will be made to the bridge. In the meantime, car and light truck traffic will be reduced from four lanes to two. The traffic will be concentrated in the center of the bridge.
Experts say that steel underneath the Anderson Street bridge has been corroded by salt.
