NEWARK - NJ Transit has launched a new service that sends passengers bus route information directly to their mobile phones.

The agency's "My Bus" system enables riders to text to find out when a bus is arriving at more than 19,000 stops.

All that's needed is a five-digit ID for their bus stop. Those are available online at

Passengers text the five-digit bus stop ID to "MyBus" (69287), and My Bus will respond via text message with the routes and times for the next scheduled trips that serve that bus stop.

NJ Transit executive director James Weinstein says the service is "Part of an ongoing effort to use technology to improve access to travel information."
