BRICK TOWNSHIP - Animal advocates are getting the word out about the puppy mill problem in New Jersey.

Brick township recently joined Point Pleasant Borough to ban the sale of dogs and cats in any new pet store. The Humane Society says more towns should join them to help eliminate the business of large-scale commercial breeders, known as puppy mills.

Advocates say the best way to adopt an animal is from a local shelter or a reputable, responsible breeder.
