TRENTON - (AP) - New Jersey's Supreme Court says it won't weigh in on whether former Olympic star Carl Lewis is eligible torun for the state Senate.

The court denied certification for the case Friday, saying thekey constitutional issue is already being litigated in federalcourt.

Lewis wants to run as a Democrat in southern New Jersey'sRepublican-dominated 8th Legislative District.

New Jersey's secretary of state, a Republican who is also thelieutenant governor, ruled last week that Lewis doesn't meet afour-year residency requirement.

A series of court rulings have upheld that decision. But afederal appeals panel ruled Thursday that Lewis can be allowed onthe ballot for the June 7 primary. A federal judge could stillremove him from the general election ballot.
