TRENTON - (AP) - New Jersey's sports authority chairman isstepping down.

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority said Tuesday thatCarl Goldberg has submitted his resignation.

Goldberg has been the authority's chairman since 2003. His termexpired last year, but he stayed on as a holdover appointment toaid efforts to revive the stalled Xanadu retail and entertainmentcomplex in the Meadowlands.

The sports authority operates the Meadowlands Racetrack and theIzod Center sports arena. It owns Monmouth Park racetrack and theAtlantic City and Wildwood convention centers.

It has seen its fortunes slump in recent years with the NewJersey Nets and New Jersey Devils leaving the Meadowlands forNewark and the Xanadu project derailed by financing problems.
