SEA BRIGHT - New Jersey officials are set to unveil a new policy today to tackle the controversial issue of public beach access.

The new policy would allow townships to work out their own beach access laws with the state, instead of a ?one-size-fits-all? public access policy.

If enacted, the plan would let waterfront communities submit public access plans to be approved by the Department of Environmental Protection. The towns would also be required to hold public hearings, and towns that don?t cooperate could be penalized.

State officials say the new policy should make it easier for residents to enjoy Garden State beaches.
