NJ's jobless rate grows in June

TRENTON - (AP) - New Jersey added 1,700 jobs in June, butthe unemployment rate inched up one-tenth to 9.5 percent as morepeople reported looking for work.

The Labor Department reports that the state added 6,400private-sector jobs last month but public sector jobs declined by4,700.

The state says leisure and hospitality industries added 5,200jobs; education and health services added 1,800 jobs; and 1,000construction jobs were added.

The manufacturing sector was hardest hit with a loss of 1,900jobs; financial activities lost 900 jobs; and trade transportationand utilities lost 400 jobs.

The national unemployment rate hit 9.2 percent in June, up from9.1 percent.
