SEASIDE HEIGHTS - New Jersey's first lady marked a symbolic milestone on the first day of summer along the Jersey Shore.

Mary Pat Christie hammered the final board into place on the Seaside Heights boardwalk that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

The initial project cost $3.6 million to replace the boards. Railings, lighting and ramps cost extra.

Sunny skies and warm weather is expected to stick around through the end of the weekend for those who want to enjoy summer's first weekend outdoors.
