EMERSON - Many people say they were surprised by the strength of the storm that blew through New Jersey Monday afternoon.

Emerson police say four houses ended up with trees falling on top of them.

Jeanie Risso says she was at work when the storm blew through the area at around 3:30 p.m. She says she didn't think it was that bad until she started driving home and saw all of the downed trees.

On Route 46 near Beverwyck Road in Parsippany, the short-lived storm snapped utility poles, bringing power lines down across several parking lots.
