LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP - A school in Lawrence Township is hoping to raise money and set a world record by holding the world's largest custard pie fight.
News 12 New Jersey was on hand as the first pie was thrown at The Lawrenceville School. The school put 650 students in a field with more than 14,000 chocolate pies.
Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records were on hand to collect signatures and make sure that each person involved had two pies.
The event raised money for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. The soup kitchen's executive director, Dennis Micai, says that normally 5K runs or auctions are held to raise money, but an event like the pie fight will work too.
The school says it will take about a month for Guinness to certify the record.
