TRENTON - The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is stepping up patrols of bridges over the holidays to prevent suicide attempts.

The increased security will be in place until at least New Year's Day. The agency is also considering long-term measures to help prevent suicides.

The commission is being helped by New Jersey and Pennsylvania state police as well as local law enforcement.

Workers say they'll be on heightened alert for anyone walking near a bridge who appears to be acting strangely.

In recent weeks, two people have apparently jumped to their deaths from the New Hope-Lambertville Toll Bridge - Route 202.
