TRENTON - New Jersey held a moment of silence this morning at 9:30 a.m for the victims of the Connecticut school shooting.

The murders of 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School occurred one week ago.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy asked people across his state to observe a moment of silence, and places of worship and buildings with bells were asked to ring them 26 times for the victims.

Christie says Americans owe it to the children killed in Newtown, Conn. to have a thoughtful conversation about gun control, mental illness and other issues.

Many major websites also payed respect this morning by going dark for a minute.
