RIDGEFIELD PARK - A New Jersey father was able to navigate his son through deadly tornadoes in Alabama.

Ridgefield Park Police Capt. John DiNiro tells News 12 New Jersey that he was able to be in constant communication with his son, James, because his cell service stayed up.

James says his father watched weather reports and told his son where the tornadoes were headed. James was watching coverage of the storm as well, until the power went out.

As soon as the storms were over, James took video of the aftermath with his cell phone. James was also able to rescue a woman and take her to the hospital.
