RANDOLPH - New Jersey gun stores say they’re seeing a significant jump in sales since the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

The owner of RTSP in Randolph says sales of long guns have especially taken off with sales increasing by more than 100 percent.

Rick Friedman’s theory is that the uptick in sales is likely due to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and her commitment to reintroducing the expired assault weapons ban at the opening of the next session of Congress.

If passed, the reinstatement would likely make weapons like the ones used in the deadly Connecticut shooting much harder to obtain.

The types of guns buyers are purchasing range from $800 to as much as $2,500.

Buyers say background checks are taking longer than usual as the demand for new gun sales rises.
