News 12 viewers lead search for rings lost in storm

MONROE TOWNSHIP - Total strangers are offering to help a couple whose house was split in two by Hurricane Irene. Mary's wedding band and engagement ring were also lost during the storm as the water rushed past their home.

The couple believes the rings fell off as they tried to escape the rising water. Mary had the white gold engagement ring and wedding band for 45 years and says they're irreplaceable.

News 12 New Jersey viewers John Thompson and Jackie Scarpari have metal detectors and felt they had to at least try to look for them.

When News 12 New Jersey first reported on Mary and Albert's plight yesterday, the couple had been warned that hefty fines would be levied if they didn't tear down or repair their badly damaged home. Friday a township official assured us the couple will not face any fines.Flood rips Monroe Township home in half
