NEWARK - Students from Newark Public Schools and several community organizations celebrated Earth Day by helping to clean several sites around the city Monday.

The citywide cleanup included a block of Bragaw Avenue. Mayor Cory Booker and Director of Neighborhood Services Karim Arnold were there to help plant flowers and clean the area.

"What we're trying to do is get more kids involved with planting instead of looking at just concrete," Arnold says.

Newark has held this program for five years. Each year, they focus on a different ward.
