NEWARK - A single-family home in Newark went up in flames Friday, causing extensive damage but no injuries.

The fire happened at a home on Oraton Street. Inside the home were three adults and two children, all of whom were able to evacuate thanks to an alert from their smoke alarms.

The home’s neighbors were also evacuated after the flames seemed to cause some damage to nearby properties.

The Red Cross was providing shelter for the affected families.
