Newark shooting takes life of Virginia teacher

NEWARK - A shooting in Newark on Friday claimed the life of an award-winning teacher.

The shooting, which took place outside a restaurant on Chancellor Avenue, left four people shot, including a child.

Dawn Reddick, a third-grade teacher in Charlottesville, Virginia, died of her injuries. Reddick was the recipient of the Golden Apple award, which is presented to outstanding teachers in her district.

Funeral services for Reddick will be held Friday at the Promised Land Missionary Baptist Church on Hunterdon Street in Newark. A shooting spree in Newark sends several to the hospital
