Newark's Ironbound firehouse reopens after 18-month renovation

NEWARK - The Chestnut Street firehouse in the Ironbound section of Newark has reopened after an 18-month renovation.

The reconstruction saw the removal and reconstruction of more than 90 percent of the firehouse’s interior.

The multimillion-dollar renovation includes a brand new stainless steel kitchen, new personal quarters and new lockers.

One of the the original firehouse lockers from 1919 was restored as a gift.

The Chestnut Street Firehouse will serve as home to Engine Company 27, Ladder Company 4, as well as Newark's Marine Unit.

Move-in day is set for Monday.
