NEWARK - The line to get into the Rotunda Recreation Center pool in Newark wrapped around the building Monday as residents scrambled to get some relief from the heat.

The pool has a capacity of 300, and it was met today. Lifeguards say the limit is in place to keep swimmers safe.

Workers at Antoine Butler's food truck, which was parked just outside the pool, say that Monday’s best-selling product was bottles of water.

The pool closed for the night at 7:30 p.m.

With temperatures expected to reach 90 degrees each day this week, many towns across the state have set up cooling centers for those who cannot get to a pool.

Meteorologist Michele Powers says the heat is expected to continue through Friday and possibly Saturday.
