NEWARK - Newark police say two officers were shot at as they attempted to apprehend a suspect today.

According to Nickey Flowers and Joel Reyes, they were looking for 26-year-old shooting suspect Jamal Terry when they themselves were shot at. The officers say they were in the stairwell of an apartment building on Park Avenue when they came face-to face with Terry, who fired shots at them, but missed.

Police say Terry is wanted in North Carolina in connection to the death of his roommate and is also facing charges in Newark.

Flowers and Reyes say they were able to call for backup following the incident and Terry was arrested at a supermarket across the street.
