NEWARK - Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio spoke with the community for the first time at a forum tonight where he announced that he's bringing back the border patrols that were discontinued five years ago.

Newark officers will ride with officers from surrounding communities to monitor the flow of drugs on side streets, which can hide drug activity.

Newark Police Chief Sheila Coley also made her first public appearance in her new position at the event. Both DeMaio and Coley addressed concerns of residents at the meeting.
