NEWARK - Newark police have confiscated more than 6,000 fireworks from a man who was allegedly trying to illegally sell them out of the trunk of his car.

Police say that a resident called police to report that someone was trying to sell fireworks from a car parked on the 200 block of Vassar Avenue.

According to police, when officers arrived at the area, they found 35-year-old Ahmad Harris looking in the trunk of his car. Police say that the fireworks were in the trunk of the car.

According to a news release, police confiscated over 6,300 fireworks, including bunker bombs, bottle rockets, festivals shells and roman candles.

Harris was charged with possession of illegal fireworks.

The bust is part of a citywide crackdown implemented by the Newark Police Department on illegal fireworks as the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches.
