NEWARK - Newark police say they arrested a man who allegedly raped a woman near Penn Station last night, just moments after the attack occurred.

The alleged attack took place on New Jersey Railroad Avenue between Edison Place and Hamilton Street, investigators say.

After the 31-year-old woman was attacked, a passerby flagged down police. Officers swarmed the area and, with the assistance of the New Jersey Transit Police, reviewed surveillance footage taken in and around the train station.

An officer found the suspect, 27-year-old Radames Acevedo, underneath a train trestle on Edison Place and matched him to the victims' description and the security video.

Acevedo was arrested and has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, and robbery, officials say.
