NEWARK - Mothers across Newark are protesting after an 18-year-old was murdered last night while trying to protect others inside his family's bodega.

Police say Jamil Bader and his uncle were working at their family's bodega when two suspects, armed with guns, entered the shop. The uncle tells News 12 New Jersey that Bader rushed one of the suspects and was then shot.

Dozens of mothers turned out this evening to protest the senseless act of violence. They've dubbed themselves "mothers on a mission." Earlier, the Bodega Association of the United States announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Bader's killer. Police do not yet have a suspect, but say they are looking for a gray four-door BMW in connection with the crime.

Family members have organized a Mass to be held tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call Newark Crime Stoppers at 1-877-NWK-TIPS. To watch a news conference on the bodega shooting, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
