NEWARK - Newark residents lined up at City Hall tonight, turning down a bid to open a medical waste disposal facility in a 4-3 vote.

Waste Management of New Jersey wanted to turn an old paint factory in Newark's Ironbound district into the state's first disposal facility, but residents say they've been against the project since it first surfaced in July.

A consultant for the company says the facility would have created 20 new jobs and made it cheaper for city hospitals to get rid of their waste.
