NEWARK - Newark Mayor Cory Booker says that the latest round of layoffs has helped close up to 80 percent of the city's budget gap, but he can't rule out layoffs in the future.

He says that a smaller budget hole means things are not as tough for next year.

Unions that represent city workers in departments like sanitation hope the mayor will sit down with them and negotiate to avoid more layoffs.
