NEWARK - Newark Mayor Cory Booker delivered his State of the City address tonight at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
In his speech, Booker spoke about the challenges that Newark faces and how he hopes to help the city move forward.
A primary focus for the mayor was education. Last week, a plan was floated to close some of the city's failing schools and open up new charter schools, which was met with controversy.
Booker also spoke about the $43 million in matching funds he has managed to raise to go along with the $100 million donation to the Newark schools from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The mayor also called upon the parents of Newark to take responsibility for their children's education.
