NEWARK - Newark Mayor Cory Booker called for more officers and citizens to be involved in combating crime in his State of the City address Tuesday night.

Booker said that the biggest problem facing Newark is the amount of gun crime and violence plaguing the city. He announced his goal is to hire 50 more police officers this year and 50 more in 2014 to help put a stop to crime.

Booker credits manipulating the budget with being able to hire more police officers and bolster public safety.
