NEWARK - Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D-N.J.) says it is time that Brick City gets fit. He's launching a program called "Let's Move, Newark," which is aimed at fighting childhood and adult obesity.

Booker calls obesity an epidemic in Newark, where fast food is plentiful, but supermarkets selling fresh foods, are scarce.

Three years ago, Newark banned restaurants from using trans fats. Newark Councilman Carlos Gonzales, who pushed for the ban, admits there's a problem. He says that Newark doesn't have the people to go out to the restaurants and make sure that they are in compliance.

The city is also looking into having healthier foods in vending machines in city buildings. Booker says he needs to lose weight himself and is promising to put the fork down.
