NEWARK - The monorail system at Newark Liberty International Airport will stop running for 75 days starting next week.

The $20 million project on monorails running to, through and from the airport begins on May 1. The Port Authority says it needs to repair some erosion on the system.

Officials say they will have buses to all of the affected stops, plus parking lots and rental car areas. They are encouraging travelers to allow some extra time when getting to the airport.

The project will go on during the same time as the runway re-surfacing project, which has one runway shut down through May. The Port Authority says the monorail repairs should be complete by mid-July.
