Newark leaders look for lessons from peace summit

NEWARK - (AP) - Residents in New Jersey's largest city hopean upcoming peace summit will boost the efforts of those on thefront lines of the anti-violence struggle.

The Newark Peace Education Summit will take place Friday throughSunday at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

The summit will feature three days of panel discussions by someof the most famous names in the peace-building community, includingthe Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

The conference is being organized by the New York-based TibetHouse U.S. and philanthropist Drew Katz, who has made significantcontributions to Newark's anti-crime efforts.

Organizers are involving several Newark community leaders in thesummit, and have programs in local schools to teach students aboutpeace and non-violent conflict resolution.
