NEWARK - Dozens of parents brought their kids to the first-ever "Stop the Shooting" toy exchange. The event allowed kids to learn about the dangers of gun violence by turning in their toy guns.

In exchange for their toy guns, kids were able to take home an educational toy such as a book or a board game. The goal of the event was to keep kids from playing with toy guns because some believe they send the wrong message.

The educational toys were donated by city leaders, many of whom paid for them using leftover campaign funds.
