Newark Fire Dept. reaches out to families of fallen firefighters

NEWARK - While a Red Mass honoring the fallen firefighters of Newark took place at Saint Patrick's Church, across the street at the Newark Museum, a plaque names each fallen firefighter, 73 in all.

The Newark Fire Department has been working for over a year to contact all the relatives of firefighters who were killed in the line of duty.

The department hopes to have a photo of each man who perished in service to the city, all the way back to the first fatality in the mid-1800s.

Officials say it is an honor to be part of the project, and they won't rest until each man's story is told.
