Newark carjacking victim fights off attacker

NEWARK - A would-be Newark carjacking victim was shot fighting off his attackers, but the suspects didn't make off with his car.

The attempted carjacking happened at around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning on North 12th Street.

The victim, a married father of two, was about to get out of his car when a man approached him with a gun demanding his vehicle.

Security camera footage shows that the man fought back against both the suspect and an accomplice before he was shot. The victim's dog chased the men away.

The victim says he felt like he was going to be shot either way - and opted to fight for his life.

The carjacking suspects remain at large.
