NEWARK - A Newark cab driver shot in the chest is recovering at home after a harrowing ordeal earlier this week.

Jean Luxama, 37, was shot at point-blank range Tuesday morning. He says he was about to drop off a customer when the man raised his weapon and opened fire. Once Luxama realized he was shot, he drove himself to Beth Israel Hospital.

Newark police say they are searching for the suspect in hopes of preventing similar incidents in the future. A dispatcher with the cab company, Family Auto Cab, says one of their drivers was murdered last year.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned man with a fade haircut. He is between the ages of 18 and 21 and stands at 5 feet 8 inches.
