EDISON - Jets quarterback Tim Tebow has been waived after only one season on the team.

Coach Rex Ryan announced Monday that the single-season QB will not be returning this fall.

His controversial stint on the team followed by his quick departure has split diehard Jets fans almost as much as his arrival last year.

Tebow was traded from the Denver Broncos in March 2012.

Quarterback Geno Smith was picked up by the Jets in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday.

There has been no announcement yet about Tebow's next step, nor have the Jets said who they will start as quarterback next season.
