MILLBURN - Schools around the Garden State are pushing to do more to prevent student-athlete concussions.

Last week, President Obama pushed for more attention to the effects of head injuries to student athletes.

The SportsCare mobile unit stopped by Millburn High School this morning to help student-athletes understand the effects of concussions.

SportsCare provides baseline measurements that can be compared to measurements obtained after a hit to the head.

The Super Essex Conference is adopting new measures for preventing concussions. They include:

- Non-Contact Period: That's a nine-consecutive day shutdown period where the athletes/coaches can't contact and so families can enjoy vacation together.
- Limited Contact: Coaches will have a maximum of 90 minutes of tackling sessions per week.
- Certified Coaches: Coaches will get training on concussion awareness, heat and hydration, proper equipment fitting and proper tackling techniques.

The conference hopes these new measures will be adopted nationally.
