RAHWAY - The New Jersey Zombie Walk may be resurrected once again; that is if the mayor of Rahway has anything to say about it.

The popular event, where people gather together and dress up like zombies, started seven years ago in Asbury Park. The event's organizers say it became too big and too overwhelming and decided to cancel it for 2015.

However, Rahway Mayor Samson Steinman says his town would welcome the annual event, saying it would "be a boon to the local economy."

"Bringing in 15,000 to 20,000 people into town, people will see everything we've done here," Mayor Steinman says.

Many business owners in town agree and say more people are needed to come to Rahway's downtown.

Organizers of the zombie walk are meeting Monday night with Rahway's mayor to try to work out an arrangement.

Mayor Steinman says the city can afford the costs of hosting the walk with money from Rahway's special improvement district. Volunteers are willing to assist as well, according to the mayor.
