EDISON - New Jersey State Police recently released the 2012 Uniform Crime Report for the entire state, showing a 4 percent drop in total crime.

Violent crime, specifically murder, increased.

The most dangerous locations throughout the state continue to be in urban environments, most notably Newark, Trenton, Paterson and Camden. Newark saw 96 homicides in 2012, and 88 homicides through November 2013.

A deadly December pushed murder numbers to 110 in Newark, according to published reports.

The state's acting attorney general said residents can expect to see the state police continue to assist urban police departments.
